Thursday for preparations ahead of nuclear talks between

and
world powers, European officials based in
Turkey
said.
Ashton is scheduled to hold talks in
Istanbul
,
where a second round of negotiations between
Iran
and
the so-called 5+1 group will take place later this month, the sources said.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said the second round will be held
on Jan. 21-22, while Ashton's office has given Jan. 20 as a tentative date for
the start of the talks.
Negotiations between
Iran
and
the six powers--the
U.K.
,
China
,
France
,
Russia
, the
U.S.
and
Germany
--spearheaded
by Ashton, resumed in
Geneva
in
December after a 14-month hiatus.
Iran
insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes but the
U.S.
and
its allies suspect that the Islamic republic is secretly developing an atomic
bomb.
