Morocco will start building by the end of the year a 500 megawatt solar power plant which it may use to export energy to Europe, the North African country's minister of energy said in Abu Dhabi Monday.

"A 500 megawatt plant is under development, we will start construction by
the end of this year," Amina Benkhara, minister of energy, minerals,
water, and environment, told a renewable energy conference in the U.A.E.
capital.
"This energy will first meet our needs, but we will use a small portion of
it to export to
Europe
," Benkhara said.
Morocco
is
boosting investment in renewable energy and reforming its regulations to bring
private companies into renewable electricity production, she told the summit. One
government initiative is a $1 billion investment fund to support renewable
energy projects.
