Greece’s largest
electricity producer, Public Power, is to hold an international tender to find a
strategic partner for its future renewable energy investments. Among these
projects will be the 200MW solar park in Kozani, Greece, which, when completed,
will be the world’s largest PV development.
A decision will be
made by Public Power during the summer, with construction scheduled to begin
before the end of the year and be completed within 18 months. The Kozani project
will cost around €600 million and include an adjacent panel factory; it will
more than double the capacity the current largest PV plant, Canada’s 97MW Sarnia
site.
“This is a great step
toward the fulfillment of a viable energy policy for our country as well as a
new growth prospect for the local community,” said Arthouros Zervos, Public
Power’s chief executive officer.
“This photovoltaic
park is a defining project in our drive to change the Greek development model
and attract innovative investment,” said Greek Prime Minister, George
Papandreou.
