Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and his Turkmenistan counterpart, Baymyrat Hojamuhammedov, signed an initial agreement Tuesday for China to provide loans to Turkmenistan gas producer Turkmengaz State Concern.

China Development Bank will provide the loan, the State Council,
China
's
cabinet, said on its website. It said that the two countries will expand their
natural gas cooperation, but didn't provide further details.
China
received a total of 5.8 billion cubic meters of gas from
Turkmenistan
through the Central Asia Gas Pipeline by Feb. 15, amid rising demand for the
cleaner-burning fuel, according to pipeline operator China National Petroleum
Corp.
The pipeline began operating in December 2009 and has transmission capacity of
9 billion cubic meters a year.
