The European Commission Tuesday cleared DKK15 million ($2.8 million) of public funding for a pilot program aimed at promoting electric cars in Denmark . The scheme supports projects aimed at testing and test-running electric vehicles under realistic conditions. It is expected to increase the number of wholly electrically propelled cars in Denmark , so reducing dependency on fossil fuels. "The Danish measure is a good example of how member states can lower their carbon dioxide emission level by promoting the everyday use of zero-emission vehicles," Joaquin Almunia, the commission's competition chief said in a statement. The aid is unlikely to significantly distort competition in the European market and will bring environmental benefits, the commission said.
