Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said Tuesday he hopes the country will resume its nuclear comeback in a year or two after the government introduced a 12-month moratorium because of the atomic crisis in Japan.

"I am totally convinced that nuclear is the future for the world,"
said Berlusconi, speaking at a joint Italy-France summit in
Rome
with
President Nicolas Sarkozy.
The government decided on the moratorium to allow the Italian public time to
reflect ahead of a June referendum on whether to strike down new rules allowing
the nuclear comeback.
Italy
abolished nuclear plants in a 1987 referendum.
Berlusconi said he hopes the Italian public in a "year or two" will
be approve nuclear power without being influenced by
Japan
's
current crisis.
