Turkey
will
hold a new privatization tender for state natural gas distributor Baskent
Dogalgaz in June or July, expecting to complete the sale by the end of the
year, Turkish finance minister Mehmet Simsek said Monday.
This third attempt to privatize Basekent Dogalgaz is becoming necessary after a
joint venture comprising two of the country's richest businessmen put in the
winning bid last year but failed to meet a recent deadline to pay for the 80%
stake in the gas company.
Turkish investment firm Global Yatirim Holding (GLYHO.IS) and natural gas
engineering firm Energaz failed to pay $1.61 billion it bid for in a tender
held in March 2008.
Simsek said investors have shown a great interest in the new tender, state-run
Anatolia
news
agency reports. Simsek talked to the agency while on an election campaign in
the southeastern
province
of
Batman
