A South Korean consortium would like to take part in the construction of Romania's 3 and 4 Cernavoda nuke project, according to Romania’s Ministry of Economy. A delegation of the KOREA International Nuclear KEPCO consortium was in Bucharest last week and met the Romanian Economy Minister Ion Ariton.
The Korean consortium is made of KEPCO International Nuclear and Global Em Power Sistem Nuclear. Nuclearelectrica, which operates the Cernavoda nuclear power plan, is currently looking for new investors to build Romania's 3 and 4 reactors after energy companies CEZ, RWE, Iberdrola and GDF Suez have withdrawn from the projects.
The investments in the 3 and 4 nukes was estimated at EUR 4 billion in 2008 but the investment will be reanalyzed. The two reactors should be finalized 2019. The project is built by EnergoNuclear, where state company Nuclearelectrica controls 85.6 percent. Arcelor Mittal Romania and Enel are also shareholders reports Romania Insider.
