International energy price reporting service Argus is extending its coverage of electricity markets to includeTurkeyfrom today. The expansion comes in response to growing demand for unbiased and independent information on wholesale prices, regulation and market developments inTurkeyas investment in power generation and involvement in spot trading gather pace in the country's liberalising energy sector.

The expansion comes in response to growing demand for unbiased and independent information on wholesale prices, regulation and market developments inTurkeyas investment in power generation and involvement in spot trading gather pace in the country's liberalising energy sector.

Rising electricity demand inTurkeyis being driven by a rapidly expanding economy. At the same time,Turkeyhas the geography and underlying domestic demand to emerge as a pivotal hub that will play a key role in transportingCaspianand potentially Middle Eastern gas to western markets. The country already plays a role in the nascent spot LNG market.

Argus' coverage ofTurkey's electricity market includes new weekly over-the-counter price assessments for forward contracts out to one year ahead, detailed market commentary, a project tracker showing the status of new generation projects, and regulatory and market news. Argus applies a robust methodology to price assessments, fitting them for use in contract pricing, risk management functions and investment planning.
