"Greece has a huge potential, which however, has been left unexploited, especially in the energy sector," Prime Minister George Papandreou said on Friday during a visit to the Renewable Energy Sources Centre at the Athens suburb of Pikermi.

"Greece has a huge potential, which however, has been left unexploited, especially in the energy sector," Prime Minister George Papandreou said on Friday during a visit to the Renewable Energy Sources Centre at the Athens suburb of Pikermi.

"Our target is to depend on our own sources of energy," he added, reiterating that his government's main policy is to promote renewable sources of energy. Papandreou underlined that with the cooperation of public and private sector, a huge export prospect can open up, a sector in which Greece is a pioneer in innovative technology, as he said.

The premier, who was accompanied by Minister of Environment and Climate Change Yiorgos Papakonstantinou as well as Jeffrey Sachs, the director of the Earth Institute at Columbia, toured the centre's facilities.
