The European Union reached a formal deal expanding sanctions on Syria on Friday, including an oil import embargo, an EU diplomat said.

Friday, including an oil import embargo, an EU diplomat said.
The decision was widely expected. The sanctions will formally be adopted once
they are published in the EU's Official Journal, which could happen as soon as
Saturday.
In addition to the oil embargo, the EU is also targeting four individuals and
three new entities with sanctions on top of the 50 individuals and nine
entities already targeted by an asset freeze and travel ban.
