Romania's electricity production could drop with 20-30% this year due to drought, money.ro reports. The most affected is state-owned hydropower plant Hidroelectrica, which covers 30% of the country's power output.
The company's general manager Constantin Trihenea estimated in May a production decrease of 20% to 15.5 TWh, compared to the record output of 19.5 TWh registered in 2010. State-owned nuclear plant Nuclearelectrica is also expected to be affected by drought, as it uses water for cooling the reactors.
