Iran has halted gas exports to Turkey after Turkish authorities requested a halt to enable them to check for a possible pipeline fault, the Iranian Oil Ministry website Shana has announced.

On the group’s website, National Iranian Gas company spokesman Majid Boujarzadeh said exports from Iran's Bazargan plant were halted on 22 September.

‘The Turkish company Botas has announced examination of the pipeline and possible repairs as the reason behind the request’, he said.

Turkey receives about 20 million cubic metres of gas every day via the Iranian pipeline, which links the western city of Tabriz with the Turkish capital.

The pipeline carrying Iranian gas to Turkey is often forced to close due to sabotage blamed on Kurdish rebels.
