Represented at high-rank level will be the European Commission
at the 16th “Energy & Development” conference that IENE organizes on
November 22-23 2011 and which will be held at the “Athens Ledra Marriot Hotel”.
Senior members of the European Commission's Task Force which supports the
Economic Adjustment Programme for Greece, including Mr. Ben Van Houtte (Legal
Adviser, DG Energy, European Commission), Mrs. Monika Ekstrom, (DG Energy, Unit
B1, European Commission) and also Mr. Brendan Devlin (European Commission,
Brussels) have confirmed their participation at the conference.
Focusing on “The Adjustment of the Greek Energy Market to
the New Economic Reality”, the 16th “Energy & Development” conference will
start with a keynote speech by Prof. John Stournaras, Scientific Director of
the Foundation for
Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE), Athens, followed
by an important panel discussion on the financing of energy investments with
the participation of investors and senior banking executives.
The international energy dimension is also central to the
conference, as Mr. Dan Dorner (Senior Energy Analyst, IEA, Paris) will present
the Organization’s annual survey, “World Energy Outlook 2011”. Moreover, Μr. Rikard
Scoufias (Country Manager of TAP AG, Greece) and Mr. Constantinos Karayannakos
(Director of International Affairs, DEPA S.A.) – representing ITGI project – and
Mr. Gokhan Yardim (General Manager, Angoragaz Inc., Turkey) will participate in
an important debate on the crucial energy issues of the region.
Following the start of the natural gas exploration drilling
within the limits of the EEZ of Cyprus, the presence of Dr. Solon Kassinis
(Director, Energy Service, Ministry of Commerce, Industry & Tourism,
Cyprus) is widely anticipated at the conference.
The Regulatory Authority for Energy of Greece (RAE) will be
well represented in the conference by Dr. Nick Vassilakos (Chairman), Mr.
Dimitris Rachiotis (Deputy Chairman) and Dr. Michael Thomadakis (Member), all
of them participating as speakers.
Finally, Dr. Manthos Santamouris, Chairman of Greece’s
Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES), will deliver an important keynote
speech on innovative energy technologies contributing towards the development
of the Greek economy.
