French power company Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) plans to use
Italian utility Edison SpA (EDN.MI) as a "pillar" for its natural gas
strategy, EDF's Chief Financial Officer Thomas Piquemal said Friday.
EDF is planning to buy the stake it doesn't own in
Edison
. EDF
already owns, directly or indirectly, about 50% of
Edison
.
The French company plans to boost
Edison
's
natural gas business.
Piquemal also said it is too early to evaluate the precise impact of reducing
France
's
share of its electricty mix from nuclear power, advocated by French opposition
political parties.
Under a tentative agreement unveiled earlier this week, the Greens and the
Socialist party said that if they came to power, they would cut the country's
share of nuclear power in the energy mix from 75% to 50% by 2025 through the
gradual closure of 24 reactors.
Piquemal said such a policy would have a huge impact on EDF and on electricity
prices. The evaluation of these consequences will take considerable time, he
said.
