The 16th National Energy Conference “Energy and Development
2011”, organized by IENE on
November 22-23, 2011, aims at hosting an all round debate on the key
issues of
the Greek energy agenda, at a critical juncture for the European course
of the country.
Members of the Greek government, as well as representatives
of the EU, international organizations and major energy companies will
participate at the conference.
The conference, which will be held at the Ledra Marriot
Hotel, in Athens, will open with a keynote speech by Mr. John Maniatis,
Greece’s Deputy Minister of Environment, Energy & Climate Change
(YPEKA),
whereas the second day will start with introductory remarks by the
Secretary
General of YPEKA, Prof. Costas Mathioudakis.
Some of the most important speakers of the conference will
include Mr. Ben Van Houtte (Adviser, Task Force Greece, European
Commission), Mrs.
Monika Ekstrom, (Head of Sector-Political Reporting & Policy
Analysis,
European Commission Representation in Athens, Dr. Nick Vassilakos
(Chairman,
Regulatory Authority for Energy - RAE), Dr. George Paparsenos (CEO,
Hellenic
Gas Transmission System Operator S.A. - DESFA) and Mr. George Peristeris
(
Chairman, Greek Association of RES Electricity Producers).
Mr. Harry Sachinis (Chairman & CEO, Public Gas

The 16th National Energy Conference “Energy and Development 2011”
will start on Tuesday, November
22, at 9.30 a.m.
Greece’s new minister of Interior and former chairman of Hellenic
Petroleum
(HELPE), Prof. Tasos Giannitsis, will be the invited speaker at the
official
luncheon, at the first day of the conference.
The first day of the conference will further focus on the
new economic reality and Greece’s energy market, financing of energy
investments, natural gas and investments in Greece, as well as
organization and
operation of the Greek electricity market.
The regional energy context, a global view on the energy
market and RES and energy efficiency are the subjects to be discussed on
the
second day of the conference, Wednesday, November 23.
Greece’s Natural Gas Transmission Operator (DESFA) and two
of the leading independent power producers, Protergia S.A and Terna
Energy
S.A., are the main sponsors of the conference, whereas the Public Gas
Corporation (DEPA), Siemens S.A. and Hellenic Post (ELTA) are key
supporters.
