The European Union's antitrust body said Tuesday it approved the
state-aid component of
France
's
regulated electricity tariffs for large and medium-sized customers, subject to
some conditions.
The European Commission approved the French aid with the conditions that the
country undertakes certain reforms of the energy market, that it reviews the
tariffs annually and that the aid finishes at the end of 2015, it said in a
statement.
"The commission concluded that, managed in this way, the tariffs were
compatible with the internal market because, given Electricite de France SA's
(EDF.FR) leading position on the French energy market, the aid that was
provided through regulated tariffs could play a transitional role in limiting
the market power of the incumbent operator," it said.
