Hydropower output declined 19.8% on the year to 8.53 billion kilowatt-hours,
while nuclear energy production was down 4% to 6.4 billion KWh, the statistics
institute INS said.
Romania
's top
hydropower generator Hidroelectrica last month activated its force majeure
clause on electricity deliveries for the second time in less than a year, due
to a prolonged drought. The company filed for insolvency earlier this year and
began a reorganization program.
Thermal power production rose 8.1% on the year to 19.8 billion KWh in January
through July, while wind farm production more than doubled to 1.37 billion KWh,
from 633.3 million KWh in the same period of 2011.
The country's primary energy resources fell 3.5% on the year to 19.84 million
tons of oil equivalent in the first seven months, the data showed.
On the other hand, electric energy resources inched up 0.2% to 36.7 billion
KWh, largely fueled by a 71.8% increase in imports.
Romanian final power consumption reached 32.04 billion KWh in January through
July, up 4.5% from the same period of 2011.
