Romanian energy output fell 2.6% on the year to 15.2 million tons of oil
equivalent in the first eight months, on falling production in the hydropower
and nuclear sectors, official data showed Friday, news agency Mediafax
reported.
Hydropower output dropped 23.3% on the year to 9.3 billion kilowatts hour,
while nuclear energy production was down 3.5% to 7.4 billion KWh, the
statistics institute INS said.
In July,
Romania
's top
hydropower generator Hidroelectrica activated its force majeure clause on
electricity deliveries for the second time in less than one year, due to a
prolonged draught. The company filed for insolvency earlier this year and
entered reorganization.
On the other hand, thermal power production in
Romania
rose
5.7% on the year to 21.7 billion KWh in January to August, while wind farm
production more than doubled to 1.6 billion KWh, from 732.7 million KWh in the
same period of 2011.
Romania
's
primary energy resources fell 2.2% on the year to 22.8 million tons of oil
equivalent in the first eight months, the data showed.
Electric energy resources were down 2.1% to 40.6 billion KWh, largely due to
the production decrease. Energy imports were down 1.6% on the year in the
January-August period.
Romanian final power consumption reached 35.5 billion KWh in January through
August, up 1.3% from the same period of 2011. Public illumination rose 6.9% on
the year, while household consumption was up 0.3%.
