The undersecretary of the Environment, Energy
and Climate Change Ministry, Mr. Makis Papageorgiou, began a process of
consultation together with PPC and DEPA, with a goal of finding a way to reduce
the energy cost for industrial consumers.
Mr. Papageorgiou send letters to the administrations
of those two companies where he mentioned the high energy cost for Greek industries,
which constitutes a burden in their effort to remain competitive amidst an
economic crisis.
In order for those industries to stay viable
and retain their work force, the ministry asks for PPC and DEPA to reexamine
the possibility of reducing those particular electricity and natural gas tariffs,
according to the decisions by the Greek Energy Authority (RAE).
In that context, a meeting was held between the
ministry, DEPA and the local companies of natural gas for
Athens
,
Thessaloniki
and Thessalia, during which the
issue of tariffs for house consumers was also discussed.
