The new economy
bill that was carried yesterday in the Greek parliament calls for significant
changes in the energy sector, most notably in photovoltaics, where a fee of 25-35%
on the sales of the companies involved is imposed. The decision has been met
with fierce opposition by the business associations and environmental groups,
who warn that it is going to lead to bankruptcies and layoffs.
For the
photovoltaic plants that became operational up to
31/12/2011
, the fee is set at 25%, while for
the plants that became operational after the beginning of 2012 and until
February 2012, it is set at 35%. For those plants that became operational in
the time between February and August, the fee is set at 29%.
It is noted
that the fee does not apply for residential systems or solar parks that were
given the green light after the 9th of August.
