Izmir Airport in western Turkey has completed the country's first solar energy project under new legislation (YEK) freeing renewable energy plants under 500 kW from licencing requirements.
The airport is now served by a solar park with ground-mounted installation of 450 kW, and a 90 kW off-grid system powering several radar stations.
Combined, the projects are now the largest of its kind in Turkey, reports domesticfuel.com. In the pipeline under the new regulations are several projects totaling 40-50MW.
