Angola LNG is expected to start regular exports of liquefied natural gas in the first quarter on next year and will target non-U.S. buyers in Europe and Asia , oil minister Jose Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos said Wednesday.

The venture, a 5.2 million metric tons a year LNG project led by
Angola 's state-owned oil company Sonangol and U.S. giant Chevron Corp. (CVX), was supposed to begin commercial shipments earlier this year. However, the start of exports has been delayed several times, although some shipping tests have been conducted in recent months.

European giants BP PLC (BP.LN), Eni SpA (E) and Total SA (TOT) each hold a stake of 13.6% in the project, while Sonangol holds 22.8% and Chevron 36.4%.
