Financial trouble, debt crisis, economic downturn – within the past months the financial and economic situation of Greece has often been automatically associated with these terms. However, there are also diverse positive examples that show that the country is moving forward.

One of these examples is the solar energy sector and within this field, juwi Hellas. The company develops and realizes Engineering-Procurement- Construction (EPC) projects in the field of solar energy (PV power systems). 2012 has been a very successful year for juwi Hellas. Counting only the last quarter of 2012, a total of 35 megawatts will have been constructed by the end of December. In 2013 juwi Hellas wants to continue on its successful path and stay amongst Greece’s leading EPC contractors.

The 35 megawatt include several free-field photovoltaic projects that are spread all over Greece. The projects have been constructed at a rapid pace within the last three months and the vast majority of them will be connected to the grid this month. Panagiotis Sarris, Managing Director of juwi Hellas, says: “We are very proud of having accomplished the construction of these projects. Greece is in the midst of a financial crisis. Therefore the financing and realization of infrastructure projects is quite challenging. However, we managed to clear this hurdle and we are successfully completing our projects.”These free-field photovoltaic-systems will be producing 50 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually. This means that juwi Hellas constructed projects with a total output of 80 million kilowatt hours. The radiation levels in Greece are exceptional: “The Greek solar industry can be counted amongst the industries that are still growing. It has retained thousands of direct and indirect jobs. And it has supported Greece on its way to sustainable and secure energy supply with renewable energies”, says Panagiotis Sarris.

Currently there are 17 employees working for juwi Hellas on photovoltaic projects in Greece. The company is situated in Hellinikon in the south of Athens. juwi Hellas was founded in 2008 and ranks among the most successful EPC contractors in Greece. It is part of the juwi group, which is a specialist on renewable energies with a presence in 15 countries.
