High Power Demand in Greece Because of the Expensive Heating Oil

This winter, many Greeks are forced to use air conditioners and other electrical appliances for heating because of the high price of oil and its higher taxation. Consequently, the demand for electricity has risen considerably in December, according to the data available from the network administrator, ADMIE.

Consequently, the demand for electricity has risen considerably in December, according to the data available from the network administrator, ADMIE.

ADMIE forecasted a maximum load of 8.400 MW for Tuesday and expects a higher average load for the dates 21, 22 and 23 of December. At the same time, Greek natural gas company, DEPA, planned ahead and asked for an LNG shipment to be delivered earlier, in order to supply the electricity producers in time.

PPC attributed the rise of power demand exclusively to the need for heating, while at the same time the company increased the usage of hydroelectric power plants in order to reach the production necessary.
