The Greek
energy market is about to get a monetary lift, as the government plans to pay back
170 mil. euros of its debt to PPC. The decision was made after the minister of
Finance and the Energy minister met and concluded that the payments should
begin as soon as possible.
The 170
million euros will be paid in installments and will bring significant relief to
the energy market, after many consecutive months of drought. PPC will be able
to use that money to pay the operator of the electricity market (LAGIE) and
consequently, the operator will pay the producers some of the money it owes
them.
However,
the government will have to take additional steps to address the issue, as the
total amount of debt in the energy market is estimated at around one billion
euros.
