Greek
consumers will have to pay more for their electricity from now on, as the
government approved increases of 8,6-9,2% in PPC’s home bills. The rise for
commercial, industrial and agricultural consumers will be even greater, at
10-12%.
The Energy
ministry also decided to include a wider “social” electricity bill for those
consumers that face acute financial troubles. According to this new kind of
bill, those categories of consumers will pay up to 42% less than normal rates
for their electricity.
According
to the government’s planning, two more increases will follow in 2013, which
will push the cost of energy even higher. Furthermore, the special tax collected
through PPC’s bills for renewable energy has already been increased by 9% as
from January 1st.
