“The New Regional Parameters” of the energy agenda of SE Europe is the
focus of this year’s “Energy Dialogue”, which the Institute
of Energy for SE Europe (IENE) is convening
in Thessaloniki
on June 19 – 20, 2013. The conference is being organized in association with
the World Energy Council (WEC) and will take place at the MET Hotel.
The “Energy Dialogue” has been conceived as a forum for furthering the
idea of a S.E. European energy bridge involving all the countries of the
region, with the objective of exchanging information and ideas, networking and
discussing the shaping of the political action required in order to face the
increased global and regional energy and environmental challenges.
The latest developments of the evolving natural gas and electricity
markets of the region, as well as the ever deepening energy partnerships of
S.E. European countries with the Caspian Sea, the East Mediterranean, the
Middle East and North Africa constitute the
general background of the current regional energy debate. Combined with the
present difficult economic situation facing most European countries and the
implications on security of energy supply and the global concern for the provision
of viable alternatives, these developments, form the basis for the agenda of
IENE’s 7th SEEED.
The subjects to be covered in this year’s SEEED will
cover: expanding the gas infrastructure in SE Europe, gas market integration in
S.E. Europe, electricity market operation and competition, electricity
infrastructure projects, the expanding role of RES in the context of the
regional electricity market, oil and gas (upstream and midstream), energy
efficiency in the building sector and its role in demand-side management, environmental
constraints and the climate change agenda, energy investment prospects and
business opportunities, energy security and geopolitical issues.
In addition to policy makers from each one of the SE European countries
and the participation of top management executives from most major energy
companies of the region, senior executives from banks and financial
institutions as well as high ranking officials from major international
organizations are expected to take part in this two-day high level regional
meeting.
IENE’s “7th S.E. Europe Energy Dialogue” is sponsored by Greece’s
Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) and Protergia SA. Supporting companies also
include KG Law Firm, Sky Solar SA and Siemens. The conference’s media partners
include the Energia.gr portal, SEENews website (seenews.com), as well as the “New
Europe” and “International Herald Tribune” newspapers.
