The Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) on Saturday said it had boosted
the levy for power generation from renewables by EUR 54 (USD 71) for each
household per year.
On average, the RES levy will go up from EUR 9.3 per
MWh in the first half of the year to EUR 14.96 per MWh, equal to an average rise
of 60%. More specifically, the levy is seen to jump by 118% for average
household consumers from EUR 9.53 per MWh to EUR 20.80 per MWh. Industries that
get their power from the high-voltage network will pay a smaller
levy.
The RAE explained that the changes in the RES levy were needed due
to issues related to the integration of different renewable energy technologies
in the Greek grid, especially solar power.
The average cost of renewable
energy generation is two-and-a-half times more expensive as compared to
conventional energy sources, according to the Greek Energy Ministry.
