Ukraine’s decision to completely halt Russian gas imports has had no effect on gas deliveries to Bulgaria for the time being, the former head of gas monopoly Bulgargaz, Dimitar Gogov, said.
“[…] as far as I see, Ukraine refuses to buy Russian gas, not to carry Russian gas,” Gogov told the Bulgarian National Radio. Ukraine’s decision should not lead to a disruption of supplies for other consumers, he added. Gogov was dismissed as CEO of Bulgargaz on Friday.
Bulgaria relies almost entirely on Russian gas supplies via Ukraine to meet its needs. In 2009 a contractual row between Russia and Ukraine led to a two-week halt of gas deliveries to the Southeast European country.
Last week, Bulgarian economy minister Dragomir Stoynev said Bulgaria could be affected by a new gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine.
