Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said it has approved 93
renewable power plants for feed-in tariffs (FiTs) under the country’s Renewable
Energy Systems Support Mechanism (YEKDEM) in 2014.
As many as 40 hydro
power plants, 21 wind farms, nine geothermal plants, and 23 biomass-fired plants
will be eligible for the scheme in the coming year, EMRA data published on
Wednesday showed.
The wind farms, with total capacity of 825 MW, have the
largest share in terms of installed capacity.
According to Turkey's
amended Renewable Energy Law from January 2011, YEKDEM sets FiTs of $0.073
(0.053 euro) per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for hydro power plants and wind farms,
$0.105 per kWh for geothermal energy plants, $0.133 per kWh for solar plants and
facilities fired by biomass, including landfill gas.
Eligibility lasts
for a period of ten years for duly licensed power generation facilities that
start operation between May 18, 2005, and December 31, 2015. Power producers
wishing to benefit from the support mechanism in a given calendar year must
apply with the EMRA by October 31 of the previous year.
