The Bulgarian Energy Ministry presented to the European Commission its Second Progress Report on renewable energy development and use as of December 2013. The report is prepared by the energy ministry pursuant to the provisions of the RES Law and Directive 2009/28/EC. The report states that in 2012 Bulgaria achieved its 2020 binding national target for share of renewable energy in the final gross energy consumption in the country.

The report further says that: “Pursuant to art. 18, par. 2 of the RES Law, achievement of the binding national target for 2020 shall be grounds for termination of some of the promoting measures for renewable energy projects for generation of electricity which apply for connection to the grid after the date of the progress report that indicates achievement of the overall national renewable energy target. This means that for these projects the procedure for connection to the respective grids, set out in section II of the RES Law, shall not apply. The electricity generated by these plants shall not be purchased by the public provider and end suppliers at a preferential price and under long-term agreements.”
