The Romanian Parliament will adopt a law of energy efficiency that follows the European directive regarding targets for cutting back on energy spending, according to Iulian Iancu, president of the Industry and Services Commission in the Chamber of Deputies.
Iancu mentioned there’s a need for a new authority for energy efficiency, similar to ANRE. The collection of tariffs pertaining to this sector will also fall under the responsibilities of the new authority.
“We need to find out what objectives we can assume for cutting back consumption, where, in what sectors and with what costs. It is difficult to assume and apply, because we need to address all the consumer groups”, according to Iancu.
The new law will imply a 1 percent cutback for the final consumer. As far as industrial consumers are concerned, they can be considered vulnerable and they would receive discounts.
“You can’t tell a big consumer that he will have a 40 percent discount without applying several energy efficiency measures, to maintain economical activity, jobs and exports. We can’t have them tell us they can’t do it in two years and then leave. Compensation measures must be enforced all over the EU”, the official explained.
