Romania's energy output inched up byan annual 0.3% in the first halfof the
year, while imports rose 11.6%, the statistics office, INS, said on
Monday.
Romania's energy production totalled 10.82 million tonnes of oil
equivalent (TOE) through June, while imports reached 4.55 million TOE, INS said
in a statement.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be
produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
Romania's electricity
output and imports stood at a combined 31.12 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) in the
first sixmonths of 2014, up 6.3% on the year.
The Romanian thermal power
plants' production rose by 10% to some 13.35billion KWh through June. The
hydroelectric power stations' output rose 5.9% to 9.0 billion KWh. The
production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell 1.3% to some 5.6
billion KWh and the output of wind farms was 2.42billion KWh, up by 8.5million
KWh from a year earlier. Solar plants produced 611.1 million KWh, up by
399.3million KWh compared tothe first halfof 2013.
Final electricity
consumption through June fell by an annual 1.3% to 24.77billion
KWh.
Romania’s electricity exports rose by 2.38 billion KWh on the year
to 2.97 billion KWh in the period under review, INS said.
