Turkey’s electricity production rose 3.9% year-on-year to 144,107 gigawatt hours
(GWh) in the seven months through July from 138,639 GWh a year earlier, the
Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS) said.
In July alone, the
volume of power generated in Turkey went up 2.1% on the year to 22,679 GWh,
TEIAS data showed.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) and natural gas-fired
power plants accounted for 46.9% of the total power output in July, followed by
coal-fired power plants with a share of 28.2% and hydropower plants with a 17.8%
share. Wind farms had a share of 3.7%, renewable waste and geothermal power
sources accounted for 1.2%, and other power sources accounted for the remaining
2.2% of the power generated in Turkey in the past month.
Turkey’s total
installed power generation capacity increased to 67,431 MW in the end of July
from 64,008 MW in the end of 2013. The number of operational power plants in the
end of July increased by 120 from December 2013 to 1027.
