Russia will join the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), according to a publication of a document on a Russian government website ordering the arrangement of the country’s accession to the organization.

“Accession to the International Renewable Energy Agency will give the Russian Federation a wide access to the existing practice of using and implementing renewable energy sources, results of the latest studies and will allow [the country] to participate in the elaboration of international a standards, as well as to influence the renewable energy sector’s development worldwide,” the document says.

The Russian Energy Ministry, Foreign Ministry and Finance Ministry were tasked with completing the necessary arrangements.

IRENA is an intergovernmental organization that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future. It promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.
