Czech energy group CEZ said it has put into operation a 872 megawatt (MW)
combined heat and power plant in southeastern Turkey jointly with its local
partner Akkok.
The Egemer combined cycle gas turbine power plant, located
in the province of Hatay on the Mediterranean coast, is expected to generate
7,000 gigawatthours (GWh) of power annually for at least 30 years, CEZ said in a
statement on Wednesday.
The construction of the plant started in 2011 and
was completed on schedule.
"The cooperation of the Czech and the Turkish
corporations has proven very successful, not only did we meet the schedule but
we also managed to significantly reduce the originally expected capital
expenditures," CEZ foreign assets division director Tomas Pleskac
said.
CEZ set foot on Turkey in 2008 through a partnership with Akkok.
Their joint venture Akenerji operates two CHP plants, one wind power plant and
eight hydro power plants with a total installed capacity of more than 1.5
gigawatts.
