The European Investment Bank (EIB) said it is considering lending about 97 
million euro ($123.3 million) to the Romanian capital of Bucharest for the 
refurbishment of multi-family private housing.
Under the project, with a 
total cost of 226 million euro,555 buildings with 45,537 apartmentswill be 
refurbished to increasethermal energy-efficiency of the building envelope 
-wall insulation, windows, roof and cellar insulation,the EIB said in a 
statement on Monday.
The proposed investments, which willbe carried out 
between 2014 and 2017,aim to reduce energy losses andconsumptionin buildings 
located inBucharest's Sector 3.
Thermal rehabilitation of multi-storey 
residential buildings is part of Romania'sNational Energy-Efficiency Action 
Plan, which intends to benefit the environment by supporting projects that help 
to reduce air pollution and mitigate climate change
