Romania's state energy department saidRussian giantGazprom has announced it
would deliver15% less gas to the country than the volume nominated by the
country's gas pipeline operator, Transgaz on Thursday.
"For
today, initially a 20.45% reduction was announced, but they said later that
theactual cutwill be 15%," the energy department's press officetold SeeNews
in an emailed statement.
An 18% cut in gas deliveries on thenominated
volumes, announced for October 8, also turned out to be just 15%, the press
office said, adding that Transgazmeasures the actual import volumesat the end
of each day.
Transgaz establishes the nominated volumes based on the
requests of Romanianbeneficiaries.
Romania does not depend on Russian
gas because the countryproduces31 million cubic metres (cu m) of natural gas
per day and imports less than0.2 cu m from Gazprom. The country'sdaily
consumption amounts to some 22millioncu mof gas and the remaining 9.0 million
cu m are being stored, the department said earlier.
Moreover, Romania has
stored nearly 2.8 billion cu m of natural gas so far, 1.0 billion cu m above the
quantityrequired by the local energy regulator, in preparation for
winter.
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has led to disruptions in Russian gas
deliveries to Europe in the past few weeks and has underscoredthe European
countries' need to diversify energy sources.
