Romania's energy output edged up by an annual 0.6%
in the first ninemonthsof the year, while
imports increased by 8.8%, the statistics office,
INS, said on Monday.
Romania's energy production totalled 16.3million
tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) through September,
while imports reached 7.4 million TOE, INS said in
a statement.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that
would be produced by burning one metric tonne of
crude oil.
Romania's electricity output and imports stood at
a combined 46.78billion kilowatt hours (KWh) in
the first ninemonths of 2014, up 8.8% on the
year.
The Romanian thermal power plants' production rose
by 2.9% to some 19billion KWh through September.
The hydroelectric power stations' output rose
22.3% to 14.3 billion KWh. The production of the
country's sole nuclear power plant fell 0.8% to
some 8.6billion KWh and the output of wind farms
was 3.4 billion KWh, up by 67 million KWh from a
year earlier. Solar plants produced 1.1 billion
KWh, up by 741 million KWh compared tothe first
ninemonthsof 2013.
Final electricity consumption through
Septemberfell by an annual 0.8% to 36.9 billion
KWh.
Romania’s electricity exports rose by 4.3 billion
KWh to 5.3 billion KWh in the period under review,
INS said.
