Denmark's Vestas said on Wednesday it has received a 42 megawatt (MW) order
from France's Akuo Energy for 14 wind turbines for the Ogorje wind power plant
in Croatia.
Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for the third quarter
of 2015 and the wind power plant is expected to be installed by the end of the
same year, Vestas said in a statement.
“Croatia shows a buoyant
potential in terms of renewable resources and we are convinced this project
paves the way for many more in this country" Eric Scotto, chairman of Akuo
Energy, said.
The contract for the Ogorje wind power plant comprises
delivery, transportation, installation and commissioning of the turbines, as
well as a 10-year maintenance agreement.
The order was placed by Aiolos
Projekt, a company majority owned by Akuo Energy.
The Ogorje wind power
plant will produce more than 100,000 megawatt-hours per year, which corresponds
to enough electricity to cover the residential electricity consumption of more
than 31,000 Croatian households.
Akuo Energy is a private French producer
of electricity from renewable energy. Akuo Energy develops, finances, builds and
operates a range of electrical power plants. The Group has a foothold in 10
countries: France, Uruguay, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Turkey, Montenegro,
Indonesia, Morocco and the U.S.
After setting up a renewables incentive
system in 2007 and joining the EU in 2013, Croatia has added almost 300 MW of
wind capacity.
The Adriatic state plans for renewable energy production
to provide 20% of its final energy consumption by 2020, in line with EU
targets.
