Turkey and the U.S. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve
cooperation in the wind energy sector, Turkish media reported on
Friday.
With the agreement, signed during the Atlantic Council Energy and
Economic Summit in Istanbul, the two countries aim for wind turbines with total
capacity of some 3,000 megawatts (MW) to be manufactured in Turkey and target at
least $500 million (402 million euro) worth of investments, daily Hurriyet said,
citing Turkey’s energy minister Taner Yildiz.
The U.S. companies will be
more involved in Turkey’s wind energy industry as a result of the MoU, Yildiz
said as quoted by daily Sabah.
Yildiz said also that Turkey’s total
installed wind power capacity has increased to 3,600 MW during the rule of the
Justice and Development Party (Ak Parti) from 19 MW 12 years ago.
The
two-day conference of the annual Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit,
the sixth, started on Thursday in Istanbul.
