Bulgaria's anti-trust regulator said on Tuesday it has launched a probe to
determine if power distributor Energo-Pro Grid may have engaged in
behavior aiming to prevent, restrict or disrupt market competition.
The
Commission for Protection of Competition said in a statement the probe was
prompted by suspicions Energo-Pro Grid may have abused its dominant market
position by refusing to connect to its distribution grid renewable energy
producers.
The permit area of Energo-Pro Grid, majority-owned by
Energo-Pro Bulgaria, itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of Czech power group
Energo-Pro, covers nearly 30,000 square kilometers in Northeastern Bulgaria. The
company operates and maintains an electricity distribution grid with length
totaling 42,185 kilometers as well as 26 substations.
