Germany’s wpd is aiming to develop a project for a 50 megawatt (MW) wind power
plant (WPP) in Montenegro that may well beat to the launch competitors that have
a head start, the chief of project development at wpd said.
“Montenegro
started to attracted interest in the wind power arena with two projects - Krnovo
and Mozura, and these are still the only two projects that could be built as
they have passed through the mandatory process for the award of a public
concession,” Andreas Chollet told SeeNews in a phone interview.
Wpd
already had a toehold in the Southeast European (SEE) region – having deployed a
combined 58 MW of wind capacity at three locations in Croatia, when Montenegro -
which has no installed wind power capacity - announced the public tender for the
development of the Krnovo and Mozura WPPs.
Although the company
eventually opted not to bid for these two projects, Chollet said a decision was
made to look into the market which had attractive features like an option for a
12-year power purchase agreement.
