Turkey will establish a plant in Iraq which will work with capacity of 3,000
megawatts of electricity, said Turkish energy minister Taner Yıldız, as reported
in Turkish media on Friday.
The Iraqi government is also conducting
proposals with investors for projects to have a reserve of 4,500 megawatts of
electricity, in light of severe power shortages, Iraq's electricity minister
Qasim al-Fahadawi said during a meeting of the Bosphorus Energy Club in
Istanbul, as quoted in daily Sabah.
Iraq plans to build up 15,000
megawatts of electricity, and has already awarded contracts for 6,000 megawatts,
Fahadawi said.
He added that Iraq is looking for $5.0 billion (4.2
billion euro) to fund transmission and distribution, and is seeking to defer
payments for four years because of budgetary constraints and the ongoing fight
against ISIS.
