Turkey's energy import bill increased by 6.1% to $4.10 billion in January this year compared to the same month of 2019, according to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on Friday.

The data shows that Turkey's overall import bill, including energy and other items, totaled $19.20 billion in January, with energy accounting for 21.4% of the overall import figures.

The overall energy import bill was up last month, with the country's increase in crude oil purchases. The country's crude oil imports showed a nearly 22.7% rise compared to January 2019.

Turkey imported approximately 2.68 million tons of crude oil last month, up from 2.18 million tons in January 2019.
