British prime minister Boris Johnson will return to work as of this week, after recovering from the coronavirus, media reported on Sunday. Johnson has been released from hospital on April 12 and has been recuperating at the British prime ministerial retreat outside London. He spent a week at hospital, three days of which he spent in intensive care, where he was given oxygen.

The announcement came hours after the country’s coronavirus deaths had passed 20,000.

The latest figures show Britain has been one of the worst-hit countries in the world and the actual death toll could be much higher when deaths in the community are taken into account.

Opposition politicians have criticised Johnson’s government for being too slow to impose a lockdown, saying the death toll could have been lower the government had imposed the lockdown sooner.
