Polish energy market watchdog, or URE, approved late Thursday an average 11.6% electricity price rise.
URE said it was obligated to raise coal prices, the main fuel used in electricity generation in Poland, because investments are needed to upgrade capacity.
The Polish energy market watchdog still requires local electricity providers to submit tariffs for approval despite last year's market liberalization.
