Hungarian oil and gas company MOL Magyar Olaj- es Gazipari Nyrt. (MOL.BU) said Wednesday that it purchased 53,031 shares of its registered equity on the Budapest Stock Exchange Tuesday.

Hungarian oil and gas company MOL Magyar Olaj- es Gazipari Nyrt. (MOL.BU) said Wednesday that it purchased 53,031 shares of its registered equity on the Budapest Stock Exchange Tuesday.

MOL, which has been fighting off a hostile takeover attempt by its Austrian peer OMV AG (OMV.VI), said it had bought the treasury shares at an average price of 23,353 forints ($128.99) a share through ING Bank Zrt. as investment service provider.

Following this transaction, MOL owns 2,273,774 "A" series and 578 "C" series ordinary shares, the company added.
