Belgian gas shipping company Exmar NV (EXM.BT) is interested in taking over Distrigas, the gas transportation unit being sold by Suez (SZE), de Tijd reports.

"We are looking at the Distrigas dossier together with our (German) partner RWE," said Exmar Finance Director Patrick De Barbandere.

Suez must sell its 57.25% Distrigas stake as part of its merger with Gaz de France (1020848.FR).

The CFO said his company wasn't on Suez' shortlist of potential buyers for Distrigas, but that Exmar was in talks with Publigas, Distrigas' second-biggest shareholder with 31.25%. Publigas, owned by Belgian local governments, has preemption rights over the Suez stake in Distrigas.
